Midway to far

2022

Notes for Lorenza

While traveling I have always found many moments to reflect, to think about the past, about the things I would like to do and give space to my imagination. Sometimes the imagination ranged so far and came out in all sorts of patterns. One of my favorite travel companions, who accompanies me on every road I’ve traveled since I was a child, is called “linea.” It is always there at the roadside, it should signal the edge of the roadway, but for me it’s a being with the appearance of animals that runs beside me, never getting tired, on its way. I’ve spent many hours talking to her, or perhaps him, I realize that I have never given weight to this detail. A companion of so many journeys and so many kilometres, so many thoughts and so many emotions. It is quite familiar with one aspect of my life, perhaps the most imaginative, free and serene one. Sometimes I still wink to it when I approach it on the highway because I know that it has never forgotten me. That despite long periods of absence, it is still there running beside me wherever I go, following me in my thoughts, reminding me that fantasy is an important element within myself (perhaps within all of us) which has made us grow, live experiences, make mistakes, suffer and also realize.

We had the strength to use our imagination, and day after day by dint of fantasizing we began to believe in it, and now we are together in
something that has gone beyond the predictable, and which every day stokes the fire of new fantasies. More than loving you now I would ask you to fantasize again.

“Midway to far” is a photographic journey of the sense of misplacement in a personal and intimate experience, in the situation of a long-distance relationship.

A fluctuation of thoughts, emotions, encounters and detachments; along side a constant research of balance and belonging.

As part of on going personal exploration on acceptance and human’s interaction, belonging in this work is searching the missing piece to feel balanced and in one place, mentally and physically.
